Living the life of an Artful Traveller, the creative process of painting, drawing and mucking with colour is supported by the visual beauty of the places I have travelled.
Prior to following a passion of art and travel, my careers included cartography, forestry, adult education, implementation of systems, and environmental compliance and enforcement. Of course my greatest achievement is as a parent. The lessons of these experiences include technical and improved observational skills for drawing and navigation as a solo traveller. They also have enhanced my passion for depicting nature, participating in cultural events, and increased respect of the environment. Many of the early images captured here are a result of quiet reflections in the midst of a busy professional and home life.
Creativity is my foundation of being an Artful Traveller. I use art and photography to capture and reflect on life’s beauty. Animals, pets and the relationship pet owners have with each other are also inspirational. Being curious and interested in learning new techniques, I have studied with a few local artists (Noah Layne, Jim McFarland, Brian Simons and Jennifer Olson), participated in Artist in Residency programs, and studied Land Art in Ireland at the Burren College of Art.
Travel is the other component to this Artful life and in many ways complements the artist in me. The travel blog depicts places and my observations as an artful traveller. The photographs and comments are often from a quiet reflective perspective of a solo traveller. Sometimes there is awe, wonder and laughter too.
